The Polar dip; Swimming in the Arctic Waters
We took an 8-day #cruise to #tour the #active #Antarctica landscape. We packed a lot into those 8 days, from fjords to #glaciers to ice fields. The journey was epic and we topped it off with a quick dip in the freezing cold waters!
"Run!" My expedition leader shouts.
There’s no turning back.
Despite the heavy snow, I’ve peeled off my parka, fleece, gore-tex, hat, socks and boots. Within seconds, my feet is numb and my hair is standing. In nothing more than my bikini, I race my fellow expedition mates towards the freezing waters.
In the icy sea, an adrenaline charges through my body like an electric current, while needles seemingly pierce through my skin. As I emerge from the water surface, I feel my lungs pumping harder than usual to breathe and a numbing sensation spreading through my body.
The Polar dip
Along the bay of the picturesque Magdalenefjord in the Arctic, I’ve put my endurance to the test. While the experience was energizing, the after-effects are clearly less exciting. Thank god for the sauna onboard our expedition cruise.

We’d spent the past week cruising through the Arctic, exploring the fjords, glaciers and ice fields around the archipelago of Svalbard. The journey had been nothing short of epic. Having bagged so many once-in-a-lifetime sights and weaved so much unforgettable memories, I’d thought it right to celebrate with a dip in the Arctic water.

While the photos don’t really do it justice, trust me, this was definitely one of the craziest things I’ve done in life.
