More Than Just a Party Town

More Than Just a Party Town

Amsterdam is often thought of as only a party town. However, there is a lot more to Amsterdam than just #party. A city of #canals, #cuisine and a crazy good time awaits anyone wanting to experience the city of #bikes and #culture.

Amsterdam has a certain reputation that is known throughout the world. Visitors usually travel to this wonderful city to enjoy the nightlife, experience the “coffeeshops” and explore the Red Light District. There is no doubt that the city is known for its late night fun, but for those that are wanting to experience something else, Amsterdam can be a perfect destination. Here are a list of tours and a hotel that I recommend.

Located just outside the city center is a reasonably priced and luxurious hotel called Rue de Neufchatel.

You can also enjoy a free breakfast. Getting to the city center is easy, as the metro station is not far from the hotel.

Heineken Experience

During your stay, you’re going to want to check out what the city has to offer. A great way of doing this is to attend Mike’s Bike Tour an “original biking tour that has been in operation since the last millennium.” During this tour you’ll experience the highlights of the city including canals, wooden draw bridges, beautiful houses and houseboats, the Dam Square and much more, which I find unique to the city. Riding along the streets with locals is the best way to see the wonderful sights of the city - and the cost is reasonable at 22€ for adults, 19€ for students, children (13-18) and seniors (65+).

In addition to the beautiful sights, you’ll also learn about the city’s history, learn about the liberal public policy - which explains why drugs and prostitution are ok in the city - and experience Amsterdam from a charismatic local who wants nothing but to show you the best of the city. After the three hour or so tour is finished, you’ll then be invited to enjoy a drink at a local bar or restaurant.

The next recommended tour is dubbed The Original Amsterdam Beer Tour, a must for anyone wanting to learn about the “bars, breweries, beer-halls and brew-loving city.” This three hour English language tour is available for anyone 18 years or older and is referred to as a nice relaxing beer tour, which is a far shot of being called a pub crawl. In fact, the owners take pride in “delving deeper into the fascinating world of Dutch beer” and offer a relaxing walking tour among the city's shopping and eatery streets.

The Canals

What is Amsterdam without the canals? You’ll want to go on an Amsterdam Canal Cruise, which is often referred to as “the most romantic restaurant in town” by couples, and as an entertaining getaway for singles. During the two-and-a-half hour evening tour you’ll glide along the world famous canals and see the beautifully lit buildings and bridges.

Heineken Experience

For around 70€ adults can enjoy an Amuse Bouche, which usually features a small sampling of Dutch delicacy, a starter, main course, cheese platter and dessert, all of which is prepared exquisitely by the chef on board. House wine, Heineken, soft drinks, mineral water, coffee and tea are inclusive. You can also enjoy a free ticket to the Holland Casino, which is located across the water from the docks and is most certainly a great time.

You’ll soon realize with the help of this guide that Amsterdam is more than just party and play. A whole world of eatery, drink, bikes and cruises await anyone wanting to get more out of the city, something that I was able to experience during my stay. You can visit again and again and discover something new each time. So, come and enjoy everything Amsterdam has to offer!
