Vie Hotel Bangkok
The lobby at the VIE Hotel #Bangkok has a lounge-like atmosphere, but the rooms have strong traditional #Thai influences. We were upgraded to a corner suite with expansive views of #Bangkok through floor-to-ceiling windows. Even in the heart of the city, you can sit back and #relax whilst in the #luxury of the hotel.
One of our favorite details at this hotel was the pillow bar. We didn’t ask for any other than what was already in our room because the massive down and synthetic pillows on the bed were heaven. We seriously thought about taking them with us.

The gym was just finishing a renovation and was not yet open (October 2014), but we were able to see it and it was very impressive. There must have been 50 machines in there. You won’t have trouble finding a treadmill, but you might have trouble finding a spot by the pool. There were only five lounge chairs, all of them occupied when we arrived, and two small tables.

The coolest feature on the hotel’s website is definitely the pool with it’s glass wall overlooking the city. It was surrounded by a small, but nice deck five floors up, but the view was mostly of the highway and the glass wasn’t really clear enough to give you the feeling of floating that we were expecting. We also wished it stayed open later than 7 p.m.
There are a couple dining options at VIE: the sushi bar, the lounge, a French restaurant and the pool bar. We ordered pad see ew and a club sandwich from the pool bar, both of which were really good.
Breakfast was served in La VIE creative French restaurant. The spread featured typical American breakfast options, an Asian and dim sum selection, poached eggs and salmon, and fried pork. The coffee was especially delicious.

The VIE is a 10 minute walk from the Jim Thompson House and even closer to the huge Siam shopping centers and the MBK mall. It is also right next to the Ratchathewi BTS station which gives you easy access to the Sukhumvit area and shopping districts.
When we asked the concierge his recommendations for lunch he directed us to the food court under the Siam Mall. You can draw your own conclusions about the walkable dining options. The VIE is, however, a very quick taxi ride from Sukhumvit Soi 11, a popular dining and nightlife destination with too many restaurants to count.
We enjoyed the mix of modern and traditional decor at the VIE, the great service and our spacious room with a great view. Most of all, we are still thinking about those pillows.
