Rarinjinda Wellness Spa Resort, Chiang Mai Review

#RarinJinda Wellness Spa Resort in #ChiangMai is a small 35 room resort with a focus on wellness and #relaxation. The resort is near the river on the busy Chareonraj Rd., but the U shape of the main buildings create a quiet haven and preserves the soothing atmosphere.

The water features and plants enhanced the sense of calm. Free yoga classes offered each morning and evening and the well-equipped spa on site are all a part of the healthy lifestyle RarinJinda promotes.

The Grounds

The pool is a central point of the resort with rooms on either side. A small lounge area provided seating where you could enjoy the water during warmer parts of the year and sit in the sun. Wooden walkways over water connect the guest room area to the lobby which is built in a 140-year-old teak house. The house once belonged to a prominent doctor who dedicated his life to providing free healthcare to those in need in the area. You can read more about the history and architecture on plaques beside the lobby.

The ground floor also houses the Living Room where guests can check email, read or check out a movie to watch in their rooms. There are several other cozy seating areas on the property with wooden games and tables where guests can socialize or relax.

The Room

Our deluxe room was modest in size but had a wide balcony and bench overlooking the pool and lush grounds. The pretty canopy bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was large considering the size of the bedroom, but the bathtub was almost comically small. We ended up leaving the large sliding doors to the balcony open most of the time to enjoy the fresh air and the pleasant ambient noise from the tall fountains that flow into the pool.

For increased privacy and lounge space, consider the wellness suites where a window above the bathtub opens onto an outdoor day bed in a small garden area.

The Food

The resort was compact with no restaurant on site, but Deck 1 across the street serves buffet breakfast to hotel guests and offers a 10% discount for other meals. We thought we would miss some kind of cafe or bar on the actual property, but there is so much surrounding it that it didn’t matter at all. In fact, not having a restaurant within the resort helps keep it quiet. With coffee and tea in your room and a lovely balcony to enjoy it on, there was no need for other facilities.

Deck 1 restaurant has peaceful outdoor seating on a deck overlooking the river and the indoor seating has a similar view thanks to the glass walls. The menu was extensive and offered both Western and Thai cuisine. The grilled shrimp with Thai herbal fried rice only came with 2 prawns, but it was delicious. Everything was reasonably priced and this is definitely a better option than The Riverside next door whose food is very mediocre in our opinion.

The spa

The spa at Rarinjinda draws guests from neighboring hotels to its extensive facilities. Along with traditional Ayurevedic treatments, the spa has a large heated hydrotherapy pool, vichy massage showers, infrared saunas and steam rooms.

We tried the Japanese Onsen treatment which consists of three pools at various temperatures, one very cold, one warm and one very hot, to soak in. Rarinjinda has the first facility of this kind in Chiang Mai. The hot and cold pools were pretty extreme, but we did feel very refreshed afterwards.

Quick Tips:

The fitness area is small, but take advantage of the Hatha yoga classes offered twice daily (make reservations the day before)

Guests get 10% off lunch and dinner at Deck 1. Sit outside if you can.

Rarinjinda is in a great location and offers nightly shuttles to the Night Bazaar
