La Rose Boutique Hotel Review

La Rose Boutique Hotel Review

La Rose Boutique Hotel and #Spa in #PhnomPenh is a true #boutiquehotel with only 10 rooms. On a quiet stretch of the main road leading away from Independence Monument. We were greeted with smiles and treated to a tasty welcome drink as we confirmed our itinerary and spa reservations at check in. A wonderful week filled with #relaxation and #luxury.

Throughout our stay, the staff made it clear they were available for our every request and made sure to make us feel at home in Cambodia.

La Rose Boutique Hotel & Spa

No. 164B, Norodom Boulevard, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The Hotel is in a great location, a quick tuk tuk ride from the night market and main pub streets. We had no trouble getting around to see the Royal Palace, Wat Phnom and other sites during the day.

The Rooms

The rooms at La Rose continued with the relaxing spa feel of the rest of the hotel. Our room had a large window that filled the room with natural light, helping us wake up in the morning. The bathroom, with its separate bath and shower, was uniquely designed with a huge, bold bathtub. The walls and most everything else is white, but cozy with sharp lines that somehow felt warm. The simple designs, subtle textures and neutral tones were soothing, but far from boring.

The Grounds

The first thing that caught our attention inside the hotel was the unique hallway design. The dimly lit passages have pebbles lining the sides of the floor and unique art pieces resting on pedestals every few feet. We could hear the sounds of gentle instrumental music and at once we fell into a state of calm before we even reached the room. Each upstairs hallway opens onto an outdoor balcony, and since there are only 10 rooms, you feel as if you are staying in the home of a friend with good taste.

There is no pool on the property but there is a shuttle to the pool of their sister property which is only minutes away.

The Spa

La Rose has a small spa room hidden on the second floor. With room for two massage beds, the space is perfect to reserve couples treatments or a massage for one. We had our welcome tea and consultation in the reception area where we chose our oils and had our feet washed. Due to lack of spare space, this room serves as the welcoming area for hotel guests as well, which has the potential for awkwardness. No one was checking in during our visit, however, and we were very comfortable.

We both chose to experience the La Rose Touch treatment with a Thai style massage followed by an oil massage and hand and feet wraps. It was very relaxing, especially the warm wraps, and we both dozed off.

The Food

The restaurant at La Rose Boutique Hotel is a must-try even if you are not staying there for the night. We ordered an afternoon snack of chicken nuggets and spring rolls to our room to enjoy while we caught up on some work. Don’t scoff at chicken nuggets-they were more like chicken patties and they were seriously delicious. The spring rolls were amazing and we ended up ordering them at La Rose’s other property, La Rose Suites, as well.

For dinner, we tried some traditional Khmer cuisine in the dining room of the restaurant. The simple color scheme here is accented with red walls and pillows. Our favorite dish was the Fish Amok followed by their signature banana dessert. The simple treat is made with sauce made from palm sugar and warm, flavorful bananas.

Breakfast is selected the night before, bed and breakfast style. Dishes were simple, but good. Choose typical American style eggs and sausage or a Khmer breakfast dish of noodle soup.

We really enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh. It is a such a lively city, but manageable and much less hectic than other Southeast Asian metropolises such as Ho Chi Minh City. Having such a soothing home base to return to after climbing up steps to temples or haggling at the night market made our time in Cambodia’s largest city even more enjoyable. We would stay at La Rose Boutique Hotel again in a heartbeat, and we hope we get the chance to return to Phnom Penh.
