The Five Most Beautiful Hotels I Have Ever Stayed at
As my job allows me to travel and stay in many luxurious hotels across the world, there are 5 that clearly stand out to me! From #Mexico to #Indonesia here are my finest #relaxing locations that are must stays! All boasting stunning views and amazing accommodation its hard to narrow it down any further!
For most of my life, I have been a backpacker. I think I still am, at heart, and I generally enjoy staying in hostels, except on some rare occasions in which it was more like a hostel-nightmare. But in recent times, my job has allowed me to stay in some beautiful, unique hotels around the world. I have always thought that accommodation only contributes to a very small portion of the overall impression I get of a country. However, I must admit that staying in a nice place, being able to get a good night’s sleep and having some pampering has a big impact on how I feel about whichever place I am visiting. This is something I have learned in my most recent travels.

So, here is a list of the five best hotels where I have stayed during my last trips.
Ubud Dedari Villas, Bedulu (Bali, Indonesia)
Hotel Ubud Dedari Villas
Ubud Cycling Tour
Sunset Mindfulness Meditation Class
I arrived in Ubud Dedari Villas at the end of a very demanding and tiring trip, and it was all that I expected and so much more. Located in Bedulu, at about 15 minutes drive from the cultural centre of Bali, Ubud (there is a free shuttle service for the guests), this gorgeous boutique hotel has incredible, beautifully decorated, very large rooms all with a balcony overlooking a lush garden and the forest.

The only noise that can be heard from Ubud Dedari Villas is that of the creek flowing below and the cicadas singing. There is a fantastic infinity pool that also overlooks the forest. Personnel is very kind and readily available, the internet works really well (a much welcomed change, in Indonesia!). I didn’t want to leave!
Villa Santa Catarina, Santa Catarina Palopó (Guatemala)
Hotel Villa Santa Catarina
Pacaya Volcano Climbing
Pacaya Volcano Hike
At times, it is all about the location. Villa Santa Catarina is a lovely hotel in one of the villages around Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. It just happens that Lake Atitlan is one of my favorite places on earth and this hotel makes it even better for me. Rooms are simple but comfortable. Showers are as powerful as they get. There is a beautiful swimming pool and a jacuzzi for the guests and a cozy common area where the fireplace is lit every night (could it be more romantic?). And all rooms have a balcony and a fantastic view over the lake and the surrounding volcanoes. I made it a point to wake up at sunrise to catch some beautiful shots.

El Convento, León (Nicaragua)
Hotel El Convento
What a gorgeous place! El Convento is by far the most beautiful hotel in Nicaragua. It is located in what used to be an actual Convent, built in 1639 and it is the perfect example of colonial style architecture. To me it actually looks like a proper museum with all the antiques that are exposed in the common areas. There is a huge, perfectly kept Italian style garden in the centre and a small swimming pools. Rooms are huge and beds are oh so comfortable. It just feels like stepping back in history, were it not for the 21st century comforts! The best to me though was having breakfast overlooking the gorgeous garden.

Los Almendros de San Lorenzo, Suchitoto (El Salvador)
Hotel Los Almendros De San Lorenzo
Laguna Verde Adventure
Chocolate Truffles Cooking Class in Guatemala
Pure hotel perfection. I don’t think I could find a negative note about Los Almendros de San Lorenzo, even if I wanted to for the sake of it. Everything is perfectly set in this beautiful boutique hotel in the gorgeous colonial town of Suchitoto, in El Salvador.

The common areas include a library and a music room. The rooms are set around a beautiful garden and all feature a jacuzzi and antique furniture. There is a beautiful pool and a delicious restaurant and the view is simply stunning.
Chan-Kah Resort Village, Palenque (Mexico)
Hotel Chan-Kah Resort Village
Barton Creek Cave
Tour to San Juan Chamula & Zinacantan Village
I am not a big fan of resort-kind of hotels, but I have to make an exception for Chan-Kah in Palenque. It really is in the middle of the jungle, and in fact the only noise to be heard as soon as the sun rises is that of birds and of hauler monkeys playing, screaming and having a good time. I can’t help loving monkeys, for as naughty as they are, so to me this is a huge bonus. Rooms are large, the park is luscious and there is a 70 meters long (yes, that is right!) swimming pool to relax after a day of exploring the archeological site.

I have been lucky enough to be able to enjoy these hotels when I worked as a tour leader (and trust me, it has been a real blessing to have a comfortable place to relax after a long day at work, dealing with large groups of tourists). It is actually possible to enjoy really good hotels for a good price.
