Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world with good reason. It has so much to offer, the culture and food are outstanding to start with. It can be expensive, so read on to find out about some of the bargains to be had.

... the culture and food are outstanding

If you’re planning to visit Paris, there are many affordable things to do. You don’t have to overspend in the capital.

One of the first activities I’d recommend is hiring a “Velib," which is the bike rental service in the city. It’s free for the first 30 minutes, and there are stations all over town. Just be sure to change your bike at a station every thirty minutes to keep it free.

If you head to Le Marais in the 3rd/4th arrondissement, you’ll find a great array of shops, bars and restaurants. The vintage shopping in the Marais is great for curious shoppers.

There are some fabulous bargains to be found in shops such as “Jimmy Fairly,” for eye-wear, and “Bis Boutique Solidaire,” for clothing and accessories.

There are some great places to eat out in the area at great value for money. The hugely popular “L’As du Fallafel” on Rue des Rosiers does a fantastic falafel or shawarma sandwich, although you’ll find a long queue snaking up the street on Sunday, so expect a short wait (closed Friday evening and Saturday). A short walk away is some of the best Mexican food in the city, at an amazing price, at “La Candelaria.” The cosy restaurant offers a delicious selection of tacos, and if you like heat, there’s the chilli sauce to spice things up. There’s a hip bar in the back if you fancy a cocktail or two afterwards.

A great way to see the city is a Segway Tour. It’s a fun way to zip around the City of Light and take in all the beautiful sights and sounds.

The Segway tour with “Paris City Segway Tours,” is a fantastic option to see many of the impressive monuments and architecture around town.

France is known for its gastronomy and cuisine, and has a tremendous history of chefs and signature dishes. There are many cooking classes available in the city, usually at a high price. However, an affordable option is to take a class at lunch, such as the ‘dejeuner’ option offered by Atelier Guy Martin, a 30 minute masterclass in cooking. Experience a stunning tea room, ‘’Angelina’s,’’ famous for their cakes, pastries and decadent hot chocolate. It’s a great place to spend a couple of hours enjoying their delicious food and people watching. Pop by the shop on your way out to buy some goodies to take home with you.

The museums in Paris are all free on the first Sunday of every month, so it’s worthwhile factoring that in when you plan your trip. The Pompidou centre in the 4th arrondissement is a creative hub of exhibitions, film, a library, and a top floor terrace with views across the city, to enjoy a coffee or glass of rosé, and an absolute must visit! There’s a great restaurant just across from the Pompidou, called “L’Ange 20,” with great value for money dishes, such as steak and fries or duck. The friendly atmosphere and service is a great way to unwind after a busy day.
