Trail Running off the Beaten Path in Iceland
Take an #adventure trail through #Iceland with Run Iceland. It is a unique #ecofriendly way to tour all the breathtaking terrain. Not only will you have an active vacation, but you will also meet new people from around the world and gain a new sense of accomplishment after the week is done.
Early September is the best time to travel to Iceland. You can still catch a glimpse of summer, during the start of autumn. There are fewer tourists at this time and you may even be able to take in some exceptional views of the Northern Lights.

This is why we thought that it is the perfect time to host Run Iceland. Run Iceland is a race across Iceland that is run in five different stages. All levels of athleticism are welcome and people travel from all over the world to participate in this magnificent experience.
If you have never been to Iceland before, let me try to explain why this is such a uniquely amazing opportunity. The country is known for its diverse terrain and natural wonders. The five-stage course is run through trails of volcanoes, glaciers, desert, lava fields, and black beaches.

The participants meet in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, before the run begins. Reykjavik has really cool vibe. The nightlife offers a hip bar and coffee culture, which definitely should be explored. What is interesting about this city is that it is very progressive, but also quite serious and conservative in many ways. Microbrews are gaining in popularity, especially since beer was illegal in Iceland until 1989, so it is still a relatively new enterprise.

The country is a great place to have children and the social system is very devoted to this ideal. There is always a designated area for children to play. Reykjavik is a great destination, however, outside of the capital is where you really start to see the diverse landscape unfold.
The terrain in some parts of the country is red, green and black, which make you feel as though you are in outer space. The Lava fields that are covered in a moss that changes colour from white to green depending on the climate will astonish you. Run Iceland takes you through this wilderness as you travel a total of 110km. When you aren’t trekking, there are optional stops along the way so you can really see as much of Iceland as possible. Each day starts with breakfast and ends with dinner and cozy sleep in a local hotel.

I have been operating trips in Iceland for many years and am still in awe of the unique beauty this country bestows. I would have to say that favorite place is The Westfjords, which truly showcase Iceland’s dramatic landscape. Mountains, insane bird cliffs, coastal fjords, traditional Icelandic fishing villages, hiking paths, wildlife and geothermal springs are a few reasons that make this area a must to experience. Not to mention the fact that it is still fairly untouched by tourists.
I often stay at Fosshotel in Patreksfjörður, which is the smallest fishing village in the Westfjords.

Also, I cannot visit the region without stopping by Simbahöllin in another village called Pingeyri. Simbahöllin is a grocery store, coffee shop and horseback-riding provider. The scenic mountainous routes in this area are phenomenal for all types of outdoor activities.
Anyone with a sense of adventure and a love for the outdoors should visit Iceland. It is a wonderland for exploration. If trail running becomes your thing then we also offer programmes in Mexico and Uganda. You will not regret partaking in this active adventure.
