Review; Ladera Villa in Ubud, Bali

Review; Ladera Villa in Ubud, Bali

#Bali, an Indonesian island is known as being a haven of #relaxation. With that in mind, I set off to #Ubud, surrounded by rice paddies and steep ravines, its setting is breathtaking, as was my villa. It was the little attentions to detail which helped make my stay so special.

Ubud is located amongst rice paddies and steep ravines in the central foothills of the Gianyar regency, and is well-known as the cultural capital of Bali. It’s home to good restaurants, cafes and streets of shops, many selling goods from the region’s artisans. Ubud tourism focuses on culture, yoga and nature. In contrast to the main tourist area in southern Bali, the Ubud area has forests, rivers, cooler temperatures and less congestion although traffic has increased dramatically in recent years. Since 2006 Ubud’s cultural legacy has become more widely known thanks to the famous memoir from Elizabeth Gilbert, ‘Eat, Pray, Love,' which was later made into a film starring Julia Roberts.

Ladera Villa is situated in the heart of Ubud, and is very close to the Ubud Monkey Forest, a sacred nature reserve at the southern end of Jalan Monkey Forest. It houses a temple and approximately 340 Crab-eating Macaque monkeys, one of Ubud’s main tourist attractions. The name ‘Ladera' means valley in Spanish, which is based on the land structure around Ubud, with beautiful hills and rivers following through the region.

After entering the open reception/dining area you’ll make your way along a stone path lined with tropical plants, which gives the feeling of mystery and seclusion. Once inside we were brought a delicious lemon and mint welcome drink, so refreshing and just what we needed after the hour drive from Canggu. We were greeted by the lovely Ari and handed a welcome letter addressed to Ms.Beth & Mr.Gaz, giving us all the details we needed for our weekend stay in Ladera.

Once we were checked in we couldn’t resist jumping in the private pool to cool off! The open plan kitchen and dining area means you’ll stay nice and cool through the hot afternoons, and at night the bedroom has air con if you find it a bit too warm. In typical Balinese style, there is an outdoor bathroom, with a small well maintained tropical garden. The huge open shower was by far the best shower we’ve experienced in the whole of Bali.

The kitchen is stocked with complimentary tea and coffee-making facilities, mineral water, mini bar and snack tray (which are both very reasonably priced). There’s also free toiletries on offer, and reception will arrange for a masseus to come to your room! When in Rome…

The bedroom features a huge four-poster bed, with mosquito net, which is tied up with adorable yellow daisies. The small details really make a difference here, from the small tropical garden to the swan shaped towel decoration.

And if you decide you don’t want to leave the villa there’s a huge flat screen TV to watch from the comfort of your bed!

Make sure you’re up before 10am for the complimentary breakfast. The extensive menu offers up American, Indonesian, Healthy and A la Carte breakfasts which can be served in the open-air dining room or just press zero on the telephone and have it delivered straight to your villa/bed!
