A Magical Adventure
When I announced that I was taking my son to Walt Disney World many looked at me like I was crazy. After all they didn't think a single mother could save up enough for Disney World but I was determined to prove them wrong. I had been planning for months to take my son and knew that if we were going to make this journey, I had to plan carefully. I read the official Disney World website and did as much research as possible. I spoke with those who had been there before to get some tips on how to proceed.
Finally I decided to go with the package deal which includes the dining plan and it was the best decision I ever made.

When it came to booking the trip I decided on June. Of course I was warned that June was a hot month to go but it was the only time my bosses would allow me to go. I booked us a room at Pop Century Resort and I have to say when you go with the package deal it really helps. Despite a late flight from the airport and our magic bands not working on the doors at the resort we still kept our heads up. We flew in on a Sunday night and on Monday we decided on the Magic Kingdom. I would strongly advise that if you have someone handicapped with you it is best to rent them a scooter but the scooters at the park are very expensive so Buena Vista is the way to go.

The Magic Kingdom is truly a magical experience.

From the moment you walk in there is a main street parade features all sorts of characters who then travel down to Cinderella's castle. The moment we saw Cinderella's castle it really sank in where we were. The main problem that one faces at the Magic Kingdom is that no matter how early you get there it's very hard to see the entire park. There is just so much to see and if you are not used to the intense heat it can be really hard to make your way around. We started out in Tomorrow Land with the People Mover ride though I must admit I wasn't overly impressed. The one ride my son and I enjoyed was the Haunted Mansion ride. A big piece of advice is to get the Fast Pass because without that Fast Pass you will be waiting in line for over an hour.

Also make sure you understand how the Fast Pass works no one really explained it to me so we missed out. At night a must see event for the entire family is the Electric Parade it is truly beautiful but you have to make sure you get a place where you can see and do it as early as you can because it gets crowded. On Tuesday of that week we hit the Animal Kingdom, which was an amazing experience. Of course the River Rapids and the Wildlife Express Train had up to an hour wait and it was too hot to wait in line. We still enjoyed trekking through the jungle area and looking at the gorillas.
When it comes to places to eat I would strongly recommend Tusker's Restaurant, which features Disney characters who come to every table, give autographs and pose for pictures. The food is pretty terrific as well.

On Wednesday we traveled to Epcot, which is more geared towards adults but if you're traveling with a child it's best to make a game out of it. There is a great deal of walking but seeing all kinds of different countries is pretty amazing. What was great is that many of the restaurants at the different parks took the dining plan so we were able to order whatever we wanted without worrying about the costs.

The only thing it doesn't cover is tips.
On Thursday of that week we traveled to Hollywood Studios and the most popular attractions there are Star Wars, Frozen and Toy Story.
I personally enjoyed the Indiana Jones Show but absolutely loved the Star Wars Ride which is 3D.

There are different character meet and greets and of course I along with many parents had to stand in line for 45 minutes just so our kids could get an autograph. However, seeing the excitement on my son's face was worth it. The only downside to the parks are the lack of healthy drinks. When dealing with Disney World and the resorts you have to be prepared to deal with sugary coca cola products. By the end of the week we were sick of all the sugar.
My final piece of advice is to bring a camera because they have employees who take pictures of your children and the Disney characters. I preferred to take my own photos.
All in all it was a fantastic trip and a magical experience.
