Active in the Mountains

Active in the Mountains

Stunning scenery and adrenaline; hiking, #bungy-jump, #canyoning, via ferrata and accrobranches. There is more to do and see near #Nice than the beach. If you are feeling #active, then head to the #mountains, jump off rocks, cliffs, bridges and swing through the trees.

When people think of Nice, they think of the sun and the sea, and relaxation; for activities and villages to see in and around Nice, see here (including travel tips), and for sea related adventures, see hereHowever, if you fancy fleeing the tourists and heading into the mountains, then here are my recommendations:

Hiking

If you come in the spring or autumn, then the 'arrière pays' has some stunning national parks and gorgeous lakes to discover, which you might not have realized are just tucked away. There are a lot of walks possible, for all abilities, look up Randoxygène, (I am afraid that it is in French though).

Accrobranche

This translates literally as 'hanging on to the branch;' that is to say it is a rope assault courses with zip-wires. There are some brilliant ones in the region, not recommended if you have a fear of heights!

Saint Laurent Du Var; Canyon Forest

There are also some stunning views before you jump off a platform and zip through the trees.

Colmiane; Colmiane Forest (June to September, check opening times and dates first 10am - 4pm)

There is a sledge run which is fun too. There is also a mini golf course (though I did not try that).

June to October; make sure you check their opening times and trainers are a bad idea, it can be quite slippy. Fabulous if you love heights, slightly terrifying if you don't. The picture is taken from half way up, as one of our group ahead was having a vertigo moment, so we had to cling to the rock and encourage her to keep going, as it is a long way down.

Bungy Jump

Gorges de Daluis - Le pont de la marriée

How do you take it when your friends give you a voucher to jump off a bridge for your birthday?

You just internally panic and smile, well that is what I did at any rate.

I'm normally up for most flying related activities, but jumping off a bridge had not made it to my bucket list, but when it is a present, then you just have to jump.

NB; do not jump like I did! I panicked last minute and jumped vertical. Bad idea.

Forget coffee, this is an even more effective way to wake you up! Jump of a ledge into freezing water. If that does not work, nothing will.
