Falconry in Tuscany

Falconry in Tuscany

Fancy soaking up the sunshine in #Tuscany? Then I would recommend a #culture trip; discover a gorgeous Medicean villa, visit a falconry; full of amazing #birds; falcons, haws, eagles, owls and more, and of course, being in Italy, the #foodanddrink is amazing, so a wine and cookery lesson is a must!

Immerse yourself in the ancient art of Falconry in the middle of beautiful Tuscany.

Falconry is an ancient art which started in Mesopotamia more than 2000 years before Christ.

It was introduced in Europe around 400 AD and has been very popular throughout history. It surely reached a peak under the Medici reign and you can experience it today in a beautiful Medicean Villa called Villa Poggio Bartoli in the middle of Tuscany.

The villa also has various old carriages and it is great fun to roam through Tuscany in such old vehicles; you can rent them and visit the surrounding area where the famous painter Giotto was born.

Florence Cooking Class

To get to the Villa, the easiest thing is to rent a car either at Florence or at Pisa airport and this will allow you to explore the area more easily.

It will take you about 1 hour from Florence to get to the Villa and you can choose to stop, if you are into shopping at the famous Outlet Mall outside of Florence; Via Europa 8, 50066 Leccio Reggello, Florence.

Restaurant Recommendation

If you want to eat outside of the villa I would recommend, the Osteria Tiraballa

Vle IV Novembre 16/20, Borgo San Lorenzo Mugello, FIorence.

Osteria Tiraballa

The restaurant is very reasonably priced and the owners (Lele e Sabri) are absolutely adorable. And don’t forget to ask for Rum, it is the owner's passion and he has a remarkable collection.

Now to get rid of all the calories you will have accumulated I recommend a cycling tour of the area. There are various circuits and an amazing app; http://www.mugelloinbike.it/ which will give you all the information you need to get to amazing villages such as Scarperia.

Scarperia

While the family is enjoying Tuscany, cooking classes and biking the more daring can decide to go to the famous Mugello Circuit, the car racing track which hosts, among others, the Italian Grand Prix.

You can book the track by contacting them directly or just enjoy the numerous events there.
