What you will do

All aboard Rhode Island’s only moving ice cream parlor! The Ice Cream Train is a special classic 1950s streamlined Budd RDC (self-propelled Rail Diesel Car) that runs along with our tour train. The unique ride is fun for all ages and dishes out sundaes while passengers enjoy a nostalgic train ride through the 125-year-old Newport Naval Station and along the wooded and natural shoreline of Narragansett Bay. The basic ticket includes the train ride and a sundae custom made with your choice of toppings. With the all-inclusive ticket passengers can also choose from one of our delicious lunch options, like the Seaside Lunch Tote. The train departs from Newport Station, which is right on America’s Cup Ave. at the north end of the Newport Visitor and Information Center. Bathrooms are also available at the Visitor Center for our passengers and we ask that you use them before your trip as we only have limited facilities on board the train.

The Newport & Narragansett Bay Railroad offers the entire family the chance to enjoy a classic railroad travel and dining experience on vintage “streamlined” era passenger cars. Step back in time and relive the way society’s elite used to travel to Newport to summer at the famous mansions, yacht clubs, and beaches. See how the railroad helped to build Newport into one of the premiere tourist destinations that it is today. Our 18-mile route takes you on a memorable journey up the west side of Aquidneck Island and features iconic views of beautiful Narragansett Bay.
