What you will do

Celebrate 100 years of Rocky Mountain National Park with a “Centennial Hike” offered by Footpaths of the World. This 7.5 mile, moderate, point to point walk begins on the north end of the park and crosses three lovely meadows: Horseshoe Park, Beaver Meadows and Moraine Park.
Features of the hike include the Old Cascade Dam and Cascade Cottages which are the oldest commercial lodgings dating from the 1920’s. Learn about the Lawn Lake Flood, the old Horseshoe Inn and the Civilian Conservation Corps who built many of today’s trails and buildings. Try to imagine the old homesteads, ranches, lodges and ski runs. Even a gas station and soda fountain were located at Deer Ridge. The hike finishes by exiting via the old entrance station near Tunnel Road.
This is a full day trip with plenty of time to stop, listen and remember. Keep in mind that the trip is easily shortened if the mileage is too long.

David and Phebe Novic became the owners of The Warming House, an outdoor outfitting store in Estes Park, Colorado, in 1983. Both being former educators, they found “teaching” people to hike and buy the proper gear an enjoyable experience.
