What you will do
This trail offers a great views of the Sacred Valley and the amazing mountain range of Urubamba. If you are too late to book the classic two day Inka Trail trek this is a great alternative as you will be trekking one full day without any crowds, still on an Inca Trail and visiting the Inca ruins of Huchuy Qosqo (which means Little Cusco).
Day 1: Please let us know before your trek if you prefer to have breakfast at your hotel or along the way. We will coordinate your pickup time accordingly. The trek will begin near the village Siwa at 3750 meters above sea level. It will be 2 hours until we get the highest point called Inka Yupanqui Pass at 4050 meters. Along the way there will be great views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, snow capped peaks and and views of farmlands and maybe even some beautiful falcons above. After the pass, it will be just 15 minutes downhill to get to the most amazing canyon of all the Inca trails called Puma Punko (Gate of the Puma). This is a rocky canyon where the Inca trail with some nice Inca bridges passes through. It will be a 90 minutes gradual downhill hike until we reach Huchuy Qosqo (Little Cusco) Inca site, which was the Palace of Wiraccocha king. Your guide will show you around before lunch. After lunch you will walk the last section of the trail 1.5 hours downhill to arrive to Lamay in the Sacred Valley where we’ll take our car to drive to Ollantaytabmo. You will have dinner here and then at 7.00 pm catch the train which is a 2 hours ride to arrive to Aguas Calientes town where we will stay at Inti Punku Inn (2-star hotel).
- Accommodations: Inti Punku Inn (can be upgraded)
- Meals: Breakfast (optional), Lunch and Dinner
- Entrance Tickets
Day 2: After an early breakfast we will take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu (they are first come, first serve-more like a shuttle) in order to enjoy the sunrise (weather permitting). You will then begin your 2-hour guided tour and once finished you will have free time to explore on your own and soak in the magical energies of this mystical place. If you have pre-arranged permits to climb Huayna Picchu (must be arranged ahead of time and is $25 per person), this would be your next adventure. Once you are finished with exploring the Machu Picchu complex you will take the bus back down to the town of Aguas Calientes on your own. Time to grab a quick bite of lunch and then walk over to the train station to take the afternoon Expedition train to Ollantaytambo. Our representatives will meet you just outside the train station in Ollantaytambo to take you back by private transportation to your hotel in Cusco.
- Meals: Breakfast Only
