What you will do
Discover Diving with a trial dive, gives you a chance to experience diving without completing a course. This involves an dual qualified SSI and PADI Instructor taking you in the pool, teaching you a few basic skills and then taking you on a dive no deeper than 12m.
The dual qualified SSI and PADI Instructors in this case are responsible for looking after all your equipment and buoyancy.
On completion of this trial dive you do not receive a certification, you do however receive a certificate from the organisation you chose which entitles you to go diving again, to a maximum of 12m for up to one year, accompanied by either an instructor or a dive master.
Or you can use the Pool and Dive sessions you have completed is the first section of the Open Water course, so you may choose to continue on and become an Open Water Certified Diver.
As one of Indonesia’s top areas for scuba diving and snorkelling, with a reputation for being the ‘turtle capital of the world’, with year round water temperatures about 28 degrees Celsius, the Gili islands have become popular for beginners and experienced divers alike. There are about 25 dive sites around the islands of Trawangan, Meno and Gili Air, with a variety of topography (slopes, walls, ridges and canyons) and an enormous amount of diverse marine life. This includes black – and white tip reef sharks, lots of turtles (hawksbill and olive ridley), lionfish, scorpion fish, cuttle fish and octopus, moray eels, sea snakes, different types of rays (blue – spotted, eagle and, from December to March, manta rays)not to mention schools of bump – head parrot fish every full moon and the occasional whale shark…plus countless varieties of hard and soft corals.
Concerns about conserving the Gili Island’s dive sites and to stop price wars in order to keep standards high, regular maintenance of boats and equipment, ( decent salaries for instructors and dive guides ) have led to the creation of GIDA, this is the Gili Islands Divers Association. All dive centers operating in the Gili islands have a fixed price agreement for everything (apart from equipment sales) and which ever Gili island you stay on, or dive course you take or dive site you dive is the same price. They have also agreed to collect the one time reef tax” charge to every diver and snorkeller for the Gili Eco Trust. This money is then used to pay for beach cleaning, recycling and reef conservation.

Island Promotions and the ORIGINAL Gili Paradise Shop were started with an aim to provide accurate and up to date information on transport, accommodation and Gili island related activities, with a reliable booking service making it possible and easier for people to plan their holidays before they arrive. We are sponsored by a group of established businesses to promote all the good things the islands have to offer. I have lived and worked on Gili Trawangan for four years mostly as a dive instructor and now for the last 10 years in Bali, and therefore have a good knowledge of the islands and how to get there.www.gili-paradise.com
